Start with the date you must leave, not a promised arrival hour
Write down when the old property must be empty, when the goods can be released and when the Swiss home becomes accessible. Mark which dates are fixed and which allow flexibility. Give both complete addresses and explain who will meet the vehicle if you travel separately. This defines the planning constraints without assuming that a road-distance calculation establishes a confirmed arrival time.
Create a load version and a document version that agree
Use one current inventory with packed furniture, boxes and loose pieces. Note estimated measurements and update them before vehicle selection is confirmed. Explain whether the load contains established belongings, new purchases or business items. Swiss Customs distinguishes household effects from commercial imports; the applicable procedure and evidence must be checked. Do not treat a purchase delivered to your new home as automatically eligible for moving-goods relief.
Agree the border handover before releasing the load
Tell me which agent is involved, which documents have been supplied and what is still missing. I coordinate the agreed work with the transport plan. Document preparation, the relevant customs-office arrangements and the goods being released are separate events. A transport appointment is not customs approval, so a fixed receiving commitment should not be built on an unresolved file.
Choose the storage stage deliberately if the keys come later
If the dates do not align, ask about suitable partner storage and identify whether it would be before or after the proposed border stage. Facility availability, unloading, access, release authority and onward transport need agreement. This is not a promise of a customs warehouse or of an owned facility in the Swiss city you choose.
Make arrival at the Swiss home a separate work brief
Give floors, lift openings, stairs, the carrying route and the destination room. List packing, extra people and any furniture assembly you want assessed. Keep fixings labelled and accessible. Customs paperwork describes the shipment for the relevant process; it does not tell the carrying team which room receives a cabinet or establish that rebuilding it is included.
| Stage or situation | Information | Next check |
|---|---|---|
| Before collection | Final inventory and goods-ready date | Report added items and uncertain measurements |
| Before the border stage | Agreed file and responsible contacts | Report missing documents or changed parties |
| Before final delivery | Keys, access and receiving person | Report a date gap or extra carrying work |
